MEFIS Student Council
incorporates students from Grade 1 to Grade
12.
The Primary Student council consists of children who were voted from within grades 1 to 5 to be representatives on the council and the Primary School House Captains are also members of the student council.
Positions on the council are: President; Vice-President; Secretary; Treasurer; PTA Liaison; Purchasing Officer. Elections have been held and the positions filled.
The philosophy behind student council is to give empowerment to the students and allow them to take responsibility. The student council allows the students to have a voice, with opportunities to contribute to many aspects of school activities and development. The student council has an impact on the social and personal development of the students of the school.
They are also actively involved in the wider community raising money through fundraising events for local charities.
This year the student council are contributing to the weekly newsletter. They have also now planned the first event, a toy sale and are in the process of organising this.
The High School and Middle School Student Council is made up of two elected student representatives from each Homeroom plus six additional elected student representatives from the High School in the form of House Captains (4) and Co-Presidents (2).
The Student Council exists to encourage leadership, citizenship and teamwork in the school, as well as giving all students a mechanism by which they can make their voices heard and participate actively in the school.
The Student Council organizes and runs special events in the school at various points in the year to raise money for charity and other student council operations, raise awareness about social issues, and to promote the school community.
This year, MEFIS HS/MS had its first ever Halloween Costume Dance thanks to the Student Council, and events planned for later this year include Valentine's Day activities, Bake Sales, International Food Days and much more.
Added to this, the Student Council is supporting a number of charitable initiatives this year, including the Terry Fox Run, Clothing and Food Drives, 'green' initiatives in the school and supporting a local children's hospital.
