INTERNATIONAL
BACCALAUREATE - PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) caters for
students between the ages of 3 and 11 years.
MEFIS has a fully authorized International
Baccalaureate (PYP) Programme designed to
foster the development of the whole child,
according to their needs and our expectations
- academic, social, physical, emotional and
cultural.
The PYP combines the best research and practice
from a range of national systems with a wealth
of knowledge and experience from international
schools, to create a relevant and engaging
educational framework for all children.
The mandate of the Primary School is two fold:
the education of the "whole child"
the need to attend to academic and social/emotional
needs; and to promote a love of learning and
an appreciation of other languages and peoples,
in order to create life-long learners and
global citizens.
The PYP approach to learning is inquiry-based
and trans-disciplinary and looks toward developing
the student's knowledge, skills and attitudes.
The program is student-centered and emphasizes
the need for the student to find answers to
his or her own questions. Such an approach
complements MEFIS philosophical and pedagogical
educational beliefs. The implementation of
the PYP is linked with continuous and intensive
teacher training sessions (on site and at
regional workshops) throughout the school
year designed to consolodate and further build
important PYP initiatives.
